Profile

Grayson began his engineering career with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (Honours) from the University of the Sunshine Coast graduating in late 2021. Early in his career, he gained valuable experience working on domestic housing projects, where he focused on design and the investigation of structural issues. This hands-on experience ignited his passion for structural design, leading him to join HR Design in mid-2025, where he continues to hone his skills as a structural engineer.

What led you to this career?

From a young age, I had a strong affinity for Mathematics and Physics, excelling in both subjects throughout secondary school. Additionally, my uncle, a structural engineer himself, served as a major influence and inspiration, making the decision to pursue this career path an easy one.

What do you like most about your job?

My favourite part about this job is the way it allows me to bring abstract principles of maths and physics into the real world. There’s something incredibly satisfying about solving complex problems and then seeing those solutions take shape—literally—in the form of buildings, and infrastructure. I’ve always had a deep appreciation for the logic and precision of mathematics, and the way physics explains how things move, hold, and resist. Structural engineering is where those passions meet purpose. Every project is a puzzle, and I get to be part of creating something that stands strong and serves people for years to come.

What advice would you give a candidate who wants to join the engineering industry?

For those looking to enter the engineering field, my advice is simple: stay curious and be willing to learn. Engineering is a dynamic profession that requires both technical skills and a growth mindset. Embrace every challenge as an opportunity to expand your abilities and never stop seeking improvement.
